That they may be one…
“And I have given them the glory you gave me,
so that they may be one, as we are one,
I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one,
that the world may know that you sent me,
and that you loved them even as you loved me.”
(John 17:22-23)
Journal entry from the Eve of Trinity Sunday, 2004
Antiphon for the Canticle of Mary, Evening Prayer I:
“We give you thanks O God;
we give you thanks, Trinity one and true,
Divinity one and most high,
Unity one and holy.”
“Beloved child, you do well to meditate on the mystery of the Trinity. There can be no peace on earth, no unity, until all people have reflected on the one, true, most high and holy Trinity of love. Enter into the unity of the sacramental life of the Trinity. You cannot love apart from the Trinity. You cannot hope for peace apart from unity. Meditate on this, my child. Pray for peace and unity in the world. Your prayers will bear fruit that you will not see.
But believe, my child, and much will be accomplished.”
Lord, apart from you, my prayers are dust. But in you, my prayers rise with hope to the Father as a fragrant offering. Father, Son and Spirit, by the love and power that you possess, I ask for the grace of peace and unity for the world, that peace and justice may prevail. Lord, I ask this in your most holy name. Amen.
